Term 1 Overview

Room 20 have enjoyed a very busy and fun first term in Year 3. They have embraced the many learning opportunities within the classroom and made the most of each exciting day. We have spent time revising important academic concepts and have gained valuable new skills.

 Literacy Pro

This term the students started Literacy Pro, a wonderful program which promotes a love for reading and comprehension. It is an engaging and interactive site which students can access from home. It is a good way to encourage daily reading and an easy way to track your child's progress. Students can quickly gain points and increase their word count to compete with their peers. Each child reads books which are levelled to their individual ability and I can track their progress online. Please encourage your child to use this opportunity to log into their account and complete reading quizzes at home.

ICT

Students have enjoyed spending time on iPads and laptops this term. They have developed new skills during ICT lessons with Mr Wallis and have shown an increased ability to conduct independent research during HASS. Students have used the iPads and laptops to research various natural features in Australia, as well as our neighbouring countries. Each child has a personal login for Typing Club and they are encouraged to login and practise their typing skills at home. Typing is an important skill that many students still need to develop.

Harmony Week

On Friday 26 March, we celebrated Harmony Day and the children looked fantastic in their traditional dress and orange clothing. We discussed that everyone belongs and the importance of accepting and respecting each other. The students proudly showed off their outfits during the school parade and we spent 2 fun afternoons with our Kindy friends. It was lovely to see how nurturing and patient everyone was while helping the younger children. We painted hands to make an ''All Around the World" display and the children enjoyed reading stories to the little ones.

Awards

Congratulations to Chloe and Ayman who received merit certificates this term. Keep up the excellent work!

Holiday Break

With the Easter Holidays fast approaching, it is a good idea to use this time to think of ways to keep your children engaged and stimulated during the break. Whilst spending time together and taking a moment to recharge your batteries is important, it is equally important to ensure your child does not spend too much time in front of screens. Please try limit their screen time and encourage daily reading, mental maths and opportunities to learn through while having fun.

Some ideas:

  1. Read and follow a recipe.
  2. Measure out ingredients and talk about the units  - what is double, half, etc.
  3. Create a holiday journal and write about your experiences - highlight the WOW words.
  4. Research a topic of interest.
  5.  Count the money in your piggy bank - convert to dollars and cents.
  6. Visit your local library.
  7. Practise telling the time - how long was the drive, what time did you wake up, how many hours did you go to the beach?
Parent Interviews

A friendly reminder that parent interviews will commence on Tuesday 30 March at 12:30pm. Kindly note that school finishes at 11:45 and students need to be collected promptly. Each interview is 10 minutes. Please ensure that you arrive on time to avoid any unnecessary delays.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful holiday! Looking forward to the new term, where I know your child will continue to make the most of each new learning opportunity.
